Abstract

A review of the books: Radim Kočandrle – Anaximandros z Mílétu, published by Pavel Mervart, Červený Kostelec 2010, 385 pp.; Václav Cílek (ed.) – Tři svíce za budoucnost. Návody a nápady jak přežít konec světa. Novela bohemica, Praha 2012, 302 pp.; Karel Floss – Hledání duše zítřka, published by CDK, Olomouc 2012, 467 pp.The book by the Czech historian of philosophy Radim Kočandrle is an interesting probe in pre-Socratian thought. The main topic is examination of nature, especially in Anaximander’s thought. The second reviewed book was compiled by Václav Cílek and is full of deliberations on the possible ends of the world if we fail to make a commonsense judgement of our capacities as humankind. Various authors present their ideas of the end and its possible conquest; besides deliberations by thinkers, the book presents practical instructions for survival.
